Good progress is being made with a Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) project to upgrade the portion of MR344 (R102) between Hartenbos and Groot-Brakrivier, as well as the portion of DR1578 between Tergniet and Wolwedans.
This R182-million project started in January 2018 and is expected to be completed by mid-2020. “Construction activities are being undertaken simultaneously in a number of areas, with stop/go controls to manage the flow of traffic where necessary,” said DTPW spokesman, Byron la Hoe.
He point out that despite two unexpected setbacks – a high water table and unfavourable soil conditions which slowed down the construction of a new culvert at Riverside – the contractor was currently on track to complete the works by the scheduled completion date.
