The Welverdiend community is stepping up where government has failed.
A group of concerned residents in Welverdiend is appealing for assistance after taking it upon themselves to repair the town’s severely damaged roads.
The volunteers began working last month to fix 10th Avenue, Station Street, and the main road through Welverdiend, which have become almost impassable due to large potholes, erosion, and years of neglect. Of particular concern is the entrance road over the railway tracks, where the tar surface has completely eroded, leaving the road hazardous for motorists and pedestrians alike.
Unfortunately, the group has run out of essential materials, such as cement, and cannot continue their efforts without help. They are now calling on local businesses, community members, and public institutions to support the initiative in any way possible—whether through donations of materials or volunteer assistance.
“We’re just trying to make our town safer and more accessible,” said one of the residents involved.
