wsp group africa has acquired lc consulting cape town, a specialist civil, structural and façade engineering consulting firm that is based in cape town with an associated business in the seychelles.
this acquisition brings lc consulting's three businesses back under one roof, that of wsp group africa. in 2006, wsp group africa acquired lc consulting dubai in order to strengthen the local wsp office's structural component and to target some of the tall buildings under development in the middle east. last year, wsp group africa acquired lc consulting johannesburg to increase its capacity in structural engineering in south africa.
wsp group africa ceo andrew mather says, “lc consulting is one of the leading structural engineering firms in the western cape. the company is also well respected for its façade engineering work, having one of south africa’s leading façade engineers, andrew hakin, at its helm. the acquisition of lc consulting cape town will not only increase our capacity in structural engineering, it will also make us the largest structural engineering firm operating in the property sector in south africa.”
“with this acquisition our cape town office has become a truly multidisciplinary business, better equipped to service our clients in the western cape and internationally and to further develop a fully coordinated approach to sustainable engineering design..”
lc consulting cape town md andrew hakin adds, “internationally, wsp has a strong reputation as being a leader in tall building design and we are looking forward to being involved in some of the world’s most prestigious tall building projects, such as the freedom tower in new york and the shard of glass in london.”
mather concludes by saying: “the lc consulting business in the seychelles complements our existing business in mauritius and gives wsp a strong foothold in the indian ocean islands, where development is burgeoning owing to recently amended laws that permit foreign investment in these territories.”
