The areas' ratepayers' association says potholes on the road have worsened whilst a rehabilitation project is yet to commence.

UPPER Highway residents are planning an urgent meeting for Saturday, January 10, to discuss the pothole-riddled Inanda Road and the seeming inaction by the Department of Transport.

The apparent inaction stems from an undertaking made by the department late last year that a rehabilitation project of the road would commence in January.

However, according to Julie Cox of the Upper Highway Ratepayers’ and Residents Association, this has not happened.

“Potholes on that road are getting terrible again,” said Cox, who added that residents are considering repeating a pothole painting campaign.

Cox added that the ratepayers’ association will check with the department when the road rehabilitation project is set to get underway.

Ndabezinhle Sibiya, the spokesperson of the KZN MEC for Transport, Siboniso Duma, was yet to respond to an enquiry by the Highway Mail.

Meanwhile, at a community meeting in November, the same residents had raised concerns about local stormwater drains which were badly damaged when flooding hit the area, with Inanda Road heavily impacted.

Residents also complained about the constant pothole patching which was viewed as a waste of money.

Speaking of Inanda Road, Cox said at the time: “The whole road needs to be re-tarred all the way from Waterfall to Molweni.”
