KZN Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma said the closure was necessary to allow engineers to install precast bridge beams.
Motorists travelling near Umdloti have been warned of a temporary closure of the M4 on Wednesday to allow engineers to safely install bridge beams.
The M4 (P398-1) will be closed at the M27 (P96) Interchange from 9 am to 3 pm as part of the M27 Upgrade Project leading to the Umdloti Development.
KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma said the closure was necessary to allow engineers to install precast bridge beams safely.
“The closure has been scheduled during off-peak hours to minimise inconvenience to road users,” Duma said.
The Road Traffic Inspectorate, together with Durban Metro Police, will divert traffic via the existing interchange on- and off-ramps around the work area.
Diversion routes will be clearly signposted, while traffic officials will be deployed to manage traffic flow and assist motorists.
Duma urged motorists to plan their journeys and exercise caution when travelling through the area.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your co-operation while these essential road improvement works are undertaken,” he said.
N3 to close for Murray Road bridge demolition
Motorists should also prepare for a longer N3 closure this weekend.
The N3 will be closed between the Market Road Interchange and Ashburton Interchange from 6 pm on Saturday until 5 am on Monday.
The closure will allow for the demolition of the Murray Road bridge.
