The City of Tshwane is happy to note that the construction work at the Lusaka Clinic in Mamelodi is showing progress. Since the handover, the project has moved from inactivity to active construction.
The MMC for Health, Cllr Tshegofatso Mashabela, together with the Executive Mayor, Cllr Nasiphi Moya, conducted an oversight visit to the Lusaka Clinic construction site in Mamelodi Ext 22.
The visit forms part of the City’s ongoing responsibility to ensure that critical public health infrastructure projects are actively monitored, stabilised and delivered with urgency after years of delay. The oversight follows the formal handover of the site to the appointed contractor, Bafihleli Business Enterprise, on 1 December 2025. While the contractual completion period for the project is 36 months, the contractor has committed to an accelerated programme of delivery and has undertaken to complete the clinic within 13 months, from 1 December 2025 and 17 December 2026.
Work undertaken to date includes site establishment, electrical installations for lights and plug wiring, extensive site clearance and cleaning, clearing of the attenuation pond, exposure of existing services and the commencement of building works.
These interventions were necessary to stabilise the site and allow construction to proceed in a controlled and structured manner. The project is already beginning to deliver economic benefits to the surrounding community as six community members are currently employed on site, with a total of 18 employment opportunities expected to be created over the duration of the project to benefit residents.
Once completed, the Lusaka Clinic will provide 21 consultation rooms and significantly expand access to primary health care services for the growing population of Mamelodi Ext 22, Ward 10, and surrounding areas. The facility will play an important role in reducing pressure on existing clinics and improving access to quality health care for communities that have waited for this development for many years.
Despite some delays in the project, the City is satisfied that measures have been implemented to remove stumbling blocks and to ensure that the contractor fulfils the contractual obligations to complete the project within the allocated time frame and budget.
