Scheduled to open in April 2026, it will create over 500 construction jobs and 170 permanent positions.
The Capital Hotel Group is investing R270 million to build The Capital Boardwalk, Gqeberha’s first “true Apartment Hotel,” set to open in April 2026.
The project marks the hospitality brand’s first entry into the Nelson Mandela Bay metro and a significant step in its national expansion.
The development is expected to create over 500 direct and indirect jobs during construction, with 170 to 200 new permanent roles once operational.
“With The Capital Boardwalk, we’re creating a space that supports business, empowers local talent, and adds new energy to one of South Africa’s most storied coastal cities,” says Marc Wachsberger, CEO of The Capital Hotels, Apartments & Resorts.
Extended-stay model
As the city’s first aparthotel, the property has been designed to cater to corporate travellers, expats, and contractors on extended stays.
Unlike traditional hotels, the 145 units will include fully serviced studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, and luxury penthouses – all equipped with kitchens and laundry facilities.
The hotel will be fully integrated into the Boardwalk precinct, offering guests direct access to shopping, including Checkers, Woolworths and Pick n Pay, as well as dining, the casino, and cinemas.
Amenities will include a co-working hub with Zoom rooms, a conference centre, a gym, a restaurant and a bar. A pool deck and garden area are also planned to host regular events.
Wachsberger adds that the group sees “enormous potential” in the region, calling Gqeberha a “rising coastal hub”.
