The Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport (DPWRT) says the construction of the new Mapulaneng Hospital in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality is progressing very well.

On Wednesday January 31, the department released a statement saying this state-of-the-art hospital is one of the major infrastructure development projects that public works is currently building on behalf of the Department of Health (DoH) in the province.

The DPWRT’s spokesperson, Bongani Dhlamini, told the newspaper that the construction had started soon after the hard lockdown in June 2020, on a five-year construction period. “Thus, completion is expected in 2025, provided that budget allocations to the project are aligned to the contract values. The construction of the new Mapulaneng Regional Hospital includes all clinical and non-clinical facilities such as an outpatient department, casualty buildings, emergency medical services building, an isolation ward, a surgical orthopaedical ward, residential building and other buildings.”

Dhlamini said the community of Bushbuckridge can expect world-class health services. “As soon it is completed, the hospital will be handed over to the DoH.”

The newspaper contacted the DoH for comment, but it said it could not provide any as the project had not been handed over yet.
