Development finally on track after 10 years.

A project that has been a vision for the past decade is now moving forward. Developers began groundwork in the middle of last year, and Standerton Mall will be completed and open for business in March next year.

Residents can look forward to a state-of-the-art mall spanning about 17 000 m², which will include a range of retail shops and businesses.

The four anchor tenants are SUPERSPAR, Woolworths, Checkers and Dis-Chem, while other shops that have already confirmed are SPAR Tops, Fish & Chips, The Crazy Store, Mr Price Home, Truworths, The Daily Coffee Café, Petshop Science, Spec-Savers, Gadget and Cell, Foschini, Jet, Totalsports, American Swiss, Capitec Bank, Burger King and Steers (both offering drive-through services).

Spaces for restaurants are still available. The developer and project manager of the mall, Dewald van Staden, said planning was done to ensure the mall would not put pressure on the Lekwa Municipality’s infrastructure for sewerage, water, and electricity.

“We have an extensive solar plant that is part of the development, as well as our own water sources in the form of a borehole. We are also building our own sewer plant for the mall” said Van Staden.

Rainwater will be used as a backup in a greywater system. The developers had to drive in truckloads of soil before laying the foundation, as the soil in Standerton is clay that easily crumbles.

“We had to bring in a better quality of soil,” said Van Staden.

The mall was designed so that shoppers can easily park in front of the shop they want to visit, making it more accessible for the elderly.

The developers are also working with Lekwa Municipality to create local job opportunities. The mall is located on a main road and not too far from one of Standerton’s entrances.
