“Soshanguve needs to be improved as a whole – no area should be excluded,” says a resident.

Soshanguve residents were left frustrated this week after they were apparently excluded from a R42.6-million project to better service delivery.

Resident Sabina Mmadi said service delivery had been an issue for many years.

“We still do not have tar roads despite paying our taxes,” Mmadi said.

“Nothing is changing.”

Other issues included leaking sewage and potholes “everywhere” which make it difficult to drive on the roads.

LEFT OUT OF THE INITIAL PLAN

Mmadi’s comments come after the Tshwane metro recently announced a R42.6-million budget to improve local service delivery.

However, some parts of Soshanguve were seemingly left out of the initial plan.

Another resident, Nkateko Maluleka, said their area had no stormwater drainage for years now.

According to Maluleka, residents weren’t being taken seriously.

She said their area is one of the poorest communities as they do not have streetlights or proper service delivery.

“Soshanguve needs to be improved as a whole – no area should be excluded.

“We all pay rent and need to be treated fairly and equally.”

The project announced by the metro will focus on the following:

– Roads and stormwater upgrades at ext. 19.

– Construction of a 10km 132 KV overhead power line in Block JJ.

– The completion and handover of 16.43km of roads and stormwater infrastructure in ext. 12 and 13.

– Flooding backlog in Block WW.

– Sewer and water reticulation to 80 stands in Block MM.

The metro had yet to respond to our requests for comment by time of publication.
