The Greater Kokstad Municipality has officially commenced Phase 4A of the Shayamoya Road Rehabilitation Project, with major construction now underway along the main route between Shayamoya and Bhongweni, passing through Marikana.
The project is being implemented by Mabona Civils and Plant Hire as part of the municipality’s ongoing infrastructure and service delivery improvement programme.
To ensure public safety and allow for efficient execution of the works, the affected road will be fully closed from 6 August 2025 until 18 February 2026. Access during this time will be strictly limited to permanent residents.
The municipality has appealed to all motorists and community members to respect the closure and use designated alternative routes.
Traffic signage and control measures are in place, and road users are urged to comply for their own safety and the smooth progress of the project.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we work towards building a safer, more accessible Kokstad,” the municipality said in a statement.
The Shayamoya Road upgrade is one of several infrastructure projects aimed at improving transport links and economic development in the area.
