Johannesburg Social Housing Company (Joshco) has intensified its turnaround strategy and service delivery programme, with renewed construction and maintenance activity now visible across several developments in the City of Johannesburg.

A key milestone in this renewed drive is the revival of the Selkirk Development, where groundwork and construction activities have officially resumed after a lengthy period of inactivity.

The site is once again operational, with construction teams, machinery and equipment actively working to advance the project. Current work is focused on piling, an important stage in preparing the foundations for the development.

The Selkirk project will be delivered in two phases and is expected to provide 558 affordable rental units upon completion. Phase One will deliver 145 rental units for residents in Region B. The next stage of the project will include trimming the piles and beginning foundation work as the development moves closer to vertical construction.

Acting CEO Katlego Ditshego said the return of activity at Selkirk demonstrates Joshco's renewed commitment to delivering quality social housing and improving service delivery.

“The revival of the Selkirk Development marks an important step in restoring confidence in Joshco's ability to deliver. Residents want to see visible progress, accountability and improved living conditions, and that is exactly what we are committed to achieving. We are working to fast-track housing delivery while strengthening maintenance, governance and tenant relations across all our developments," said Ditshego.

The resumption of work at Selkirk forms part of Joshco's broader strategy to improve operational efficiency, rebuild stakeholder confidence and accelerate the delivery of sustainable housing solutions across Johannesburg.

Alongside construction projects, Joshco has also intensified maintenance interventions at several residential developments as part of the City of Johannesburg's High-Impact Service Delivery Programme.

The programme focuses on improving cleanliness, safety, compliance and overall living conditions through rapid-response interventions. More than six Joshco developments have already undergone maintenance work, including grass cutting, landscaping, waste removal, cleaning of communal spaces, repairs and environmental management.

Joshco said the maintenance drive is part of an ongoing programme aimed at creating safe, clean and dignified living environments for tenants.

The entity is also conducting tenant audits across selected projects to strengthen governance, improve accountability and ensure housing records remain accurate and compliant.

Joshco has thanked residents for their patience and support during the turnaround process, adding that tenant feedback remains critical in shaping improved service delivery and customer satisfaction.

The organisation said residents can expect a renewed culture of accountability, transparency and execution as Joshco continues working towards building sustainable and inclusive communities across Johannesburg.
