CPF, police and Sanral issue 14 day notices to street vendors trading illegally on Sanral road reserves in Mookgophong.
MOKOPANE – The CPF executive committee and the Mookgophong sub-forum, in collaboration with the police and the South African National Road Agency Ltd (Sanral) issued notices to street vendors operating illegally on Sanral road reserves and servitudes on November 6.
This action is in line with the National Roads Agency and National Roads Act (Act 7 of 1998), which stipulates that no person may sell, display, manufacture or erect goods or structures within the national road reserve or building restriction zone without prior written permission from Sanral.
Members of the CPF and police briefing street vendors on compliance requirements under the National Roads Act.
Any such activity without authorisation constitutes a contravention of the act and may lead to criminal prosecution, fines or imprisonment.
According to FF Plus councillor Marita Louw, street vendors were formally warned to immediately stop trading and remove all illegal structures within 14 days, as specified in Sanral’s final notice. Should vendors fail to comply within the allocated time, Sanral reserves the right to pursue further legal action.
“This collaboration between the CPF, the police and Sanral aims to promote safety along main roads, enforce legislation, maintain order and ensure public accountability,” said Louw.
The CPF, Sanral and the police are requesting cooperation from communities.
