DT Mlangeni Projects was also responsible for the repair of the Adam's Mission bridge near Amanzimtoti on the R603, and had recently completed a road rehabilitation project at Amandawe near Scottburgh on the South Coast.

The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) says it has the utmost confidence in the contractor appointed to complete the R37-million repair to the Umhlali River bridge on the N2.

DT Mlangeni Projects, based at Riverhorse Valley, was awarded the contract at the end of January and is in the process of setting up on site.

Repairs are projected to take four months.

Sanral chief corporate affairs officer Lehlohonolo Memeza said the contractor’s key personnel had experience beyond the minimum requirements.

“A specialist subcontractor for the design of the temporary works and jacking operation has also been appointed,” Memeza said.

The scope of work includes jacking the bridge deck back into its original position, both vertically and horizontally.

Damaged closure and façade walls will be reconstructed and the bearings and joints will be replaced during the repositioning of the deck.

Fills on the approach side of the bridge will be reinstated, requiring the demolition of slabs on the approach side, excavation and battering of the existing fill material, benching of new road fill and layer works, as well as the reinstatement of the concrete pavement.

This includes drainage works and the installation of guardrails.

“DT Mlangeni Projects scored the highest in the evaluation process and has met all the requirements as set out in the tender document. In terms of their past performance, they have complied with the requirements of this tender and references provided confirmed that past projects had been executed successfully,” Memeza concluded.

The company was founded in 2012.
