The metro has announced that the upgrades to Matt Street and Boendoe Avenue will improve infrastructure and access to the new Pretorius Park Ext 40 housing development.
Major upgrades are set to take place on Matt Street and Boendoe Avenue in Garsfontein.
Tshwane metro announced that the upgrades are meant to improve infrastructure and access to the new Pretorius Park Ext 40 housing development, which is on the cards.
According to metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo, the project is currently in the design phase, with the Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) awaiting approval from the Gauteng Provincial Department of Roads and Transport.
“Construction drawings are being prepared and will be submitted once the TIA receives approval.”
Mashigo said the upgrades aim to provide efficient and safe access to the new housing development on Portion 284 of Farm Garstfontein 374-JR, while improving traffic flow and supporting the surrounding road network.
He said the project is expected to be implemented through an open tender process for the appointment of a contractor, with construction anticipated between April 2026 and June 2028.
“The scope of the project includes construction of water, sewer, internal roads, and stormwater infrastructure.”
Improvements will include:
– A proposed traffic circle on the eastern portion of the site to regulate traffic entering the development.
– A new access point on the western portion of the site.
– A Boendoe Avenue link road connecting the western access point to Matt Street.
– Traffic signal optimisation at the intersections of Garstfontein Road with Matt Street and De Villebois Mareuil Drive.
– Widening of lanes and reinstatement of shoulders on Garstfontein Road.
Mashigo said Boendoe Avenue will be constructed as a Class U4(B) road and will be realigned according to the municipal roads master plan.
He said the upgrades are designed to accommodate the new housing project, which aims to address informal settlement eradication by providing homes for qualifying beneficiaries.
“These include residents from Plastic View, Cemetery View, applicants on the National Housing Needs Register, and those qualifying for rental accommodation.”
Mashigo said the upgrades are critical to ensuring residents and businesses in the area have safe and efficient access.
“Our investment in roads, water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure reflects the city’s commitment to sustainable growth and the successful implementation of the Pretorius Park Ext 40 development.”
According to Mashigo, the funding for the project has been approved in the council’s Medium-Term Revenue and Expenditure Framework, with allocations as follows:
– 2025/26: R8 120 706
– 2026/27: R12 436 696
– 2027/28: R27 674 164.
He emphasised that the upgrades are vital to improving traffic flow, road safety, and access to services, while supporting long-term community growth in Garsfontein.
“Once completed, residents can expect a safer, more reliable, and fully structured road network, aligning with the city’s broader infrastructure development plans,” he said.
