Councillor requests visitors to the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens to exercise caution when near the construction site.
The city has embarked on an eight-month project to rehabilitate the Emmarentia top dam.
The capital expenditure project hopes to improve and re-engineer the site in the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens.
The Emmarentia Residents Association says, “After many, many years of delays the project to repair the top dam, below Marks Park, has started. The initial project also aimed to repair the middle dam but numerous delays have meant that the project is now smaller and not so ambitious and less costly for the city.”
Work to be carried out includes:
- Desilting of the upper dam
- Removal of vegetation
- Construction of a slipway
- New dam embankment
- Construction of a sand trap
Ward 88 councillor Nicolene Jonker wishes to alert residents about the construction work at Emmarentia’s top dam.
