The clinic is now 80% complete, marking a significant step in enhancing access to quality healthcare for the Ivory Park community.

Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), on behalf of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) Health Department, is pleased to announce that the construction of the new Hikhensile Clinic, on Lokologa Street, Ivory Park, Region A, is now 80% complete.

This state-of-the-art, 2 173m2 healthcare facility is rapidly taking shape, marking a significant step in enhancing access to quality healthcare for the Ivory Park community.

Once completed, the new Hikhensile Clinic will replace the old facility, providing a modern and fully equipped healthcare environment that meets the CoJ Health Department’s standards.

On-site activities and construction work are in full swing, with the key activities of roof sheeting installation, paving, completion of the boundary wall, erection of the ambulance canopy structure, internal plastering, and external painting underway.

The new R28m clinic will offer a comprehensive range of healthcare services featuring an acute wing, emergency wing, administrative wing, chronic wing, mother-and-child unit, and a spacious waiting area.

JDA CEO Themba Mathibe emphasised the importance of this development, stating that the clinic facility will not only improve access to essential health services but will also uplift the surrounding area by creating jobs and fostering economic growth.

“We are proud of the progress and look forward to its completion,” said Mathibe. “The development of the Hikhensile Clinic aligns with the CoJ’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and enhancing service delivery in underserved communities.”

JDA has previously demonstrated this commitment through projects such as the Kaalfontein Clinic, an eco-friendly facility that has significantly improved healthcare access in the region.

The facility will include:

16 Consultation rooms: Private rooms equipped with modern medical tools and equipment, allowing healthcare professionals to conduct thorough examinations, consultations, and treatments in a confidential environment.

Treatment room: A specialised room for administering various medical treatments and procedures, equipped with the necessary medical equipment and supplies to ensure patient safety and care.

Isolation room: A dedicated room designed to isolate and treat patients with contagious illnesses, preventing the spread of infections within the clinic.

Resuscitation room: A critical care room equipped with advanced life-saving equipment and supplies, designated for emergency situations where immediate medical intervention is required.

Rehydration rooms: Rooms equipped to provide intravenous fluids and other treatments to patients suffering from dehydration or related conditions, ensuring prompt and effective care.
