Potholes are everywhere but reporting them and raising awareness can reduce the risks and get them the attention they need.
Lately, it has become difficult to drive around Randburg, or anywhere in the city, without having to dodge a pothole.
The intersection at Drysdale Road and Olievenhout Crescent, in Northgate, has not escaped this scourge, with residents having reported the matter twice to Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) on December 17, 2024, and again on May 14. No attention has been given to the potholes, and residents are worried, mentioning that the potholes are an: “Accident waiting to happen.”
An e-hailing driver, Justice Mako, said: “JRA should be focusing more on fixing the roads, instead of pavements. Driving at night has become a nightmare for me, because you cannot drive for more than 1km without dodging a pothole, which is a risk. What will happen to me if I puncture my tyre at night due to the potholes?”
JRA mentioned that they prioritise pothole repairs according to their degree and extent, and that they also give priority to major roads, and those that are around public spaces, such as schools. Residents should follow the right procedure when reporting these potholes. A great starting point would be communicating with your councillor about the matter, or reporting them on JRA’s official website, to get the help needed.
The following are JRA’s official social media platforms and contact details, where you can report potholes in your neighbourhood.
