Major projects in Rand West City show steady progress toward 2025/ 26 targets, the government says.
Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Tasneem Motara, on February 12, led a series of oversight site visits to major human settlements projects across the West Rand, including key developments in Rand West City.
The visits aimed to assess progress on the ground and ensure that delivery milestones for the 2025/ 26 financial year remain on track.
The visits confirmed steady movement from planning to delivery, with visible progress across housing construction, serviced stands and bulk infrastructure. Projects visited included Western Mega in Toekomsrus, Dan Tloome, Westonaria Borwa, Afri Village in Droogheuwel and Elijah Barayi.
Speaking during the site visits, the MEC highlighted the progress made across the developments, including housing delivery, infrastructure readiness, job creation and the role of SMMEs in supporting local economic activity.
“These multi-year developments are set to deliver tens of thousands of housing opportunities, supported by schools, clinics, transport facilities and social infrastructure,” Motara said, reinforcing the Department’s commitment to building complete, sustainable communities.
Social media users had mixed reactions to the visits. Lehlohonolo Matsabisa praised the MEC for reducing the backlog in the West Rand.
“Under your leadership, you’re always on the ground to ensure that contractors are held accountable,” he said.
Meanwhile, others expressed frustration over delays.
Mangwanya Jolinkomo said, “We’ve been waiting for our stands for a long time now,” highlighting the ongoing demand for serviced stands.
For the majority of residents in the West Rand still waiting for their homes, these projects are more than just housing delivery. They represent the restoration of dignity and the creation of communities where people can live, work and thrive.
