The MEC for Limpopo Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure Nkakareng Rakgoale says she’s happy with the progress made so far on the construction of the steel bridge in Ga-Malekana village, near Steelpoort.
The MEC together with Roads Agency Limpopo CEO Gabriel Maluleke visited the area on Monday to check the progress of the work done in a build-up to the presidential imbizo to be held in Burgersfort on Friday.
Rakgoale says even though they have experienced some challenges at the beginning they are happy that they are moving somewhere.
On whether they have done well in terms of road construction and maintenance in the province so far, Rakgoale has acknowledged that they have not done well due to challenges such as lack of resources.
Rakgoale they would be far by now in terms of road construction and maintenance if they would get more resources.
She says they are using what they have been allocated this financial year.
RAL’s Maluleke says the construction project of the steel bridge is currently sitting at 8 percent.
Maluleke says there were a number of challenges including those brought in by the small, medium and micro enterprise owners but have since been resolved and will be managed going forward.
He says they are on track and the first lane of the bridge is likely to be completed by November this year.
The RAL CEO also says once the first lane is completed, they will be able to close the old bridge and divert traffic while busy with construction of the second lane.
