Critical bulk and internal services are coming to Ga-Rankuwa Ext 10, paving the way for building 204 homes, while creating local jobs and supporting small businesses during the construction.

The Tshwane metro has launched an R40-million infrastructure project in Ga-Rankuwa Ext 10, aiming to build 204 homes in the area.

The project, spearheaded by the MMC for Human Settlements, Alderman Aaron Maluleka, focuses on the installation of critical bulk and internal services, including water, sewer reticulation, roads and stormwater infrastructure.

These services are essential to ensure that the site is fully prepared ahead of housing construction.

The infrastructure will service 204 walk-up housing units that are scheduled to be built by the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements.

Once the infrastructure phase is completed, the department will proceed with the construction of the housing units, which will be allocated to qualifying beneficiaries.

According to the metro, the infrastructure phase is expected to last about 20 months.

This timeline allows for the comprehensive installation of reliable bulk services to support the long-term sustainability of the housing development.

Maluleka emphasised the importance of ensuring that housing projects are supported by proper services from the outset.

“This reflects our commitment to restoring dignity and improving living conditions for our residents, ensuring that no community is left behind,” he said.

He added that investing in bulk infrastructure before houses are constructed guarantees that future residents will have access to a reliable water supply, sanitation systems, proper road networks, and effective stormwater management.

The metro has prioritised this approach as part of its broader strategy to fast-track integrated human settlements development.

Beyond improving service delivery, the project is also expected to stimulate the local economy in Ga-Rankuwa Ext 10 and surrounding communities.

Maluleka confirmed that 15 skilled and semi-skilled local labourers are expected to benefit from employment opportunities during the implementation phase.

He said local small businesses will participate in the project, strengthening community empowerment and supporting local business growth.

The initiative forms part of the metro’s ongoing efforts to accelerate infrastructure delivery while creating well-planned, sustainable human settlements.

By ensuring that essential services such as water, sanitation, roads and stormwater systems are in place ahead of construction, the municipality aims to avoid delays and ensure that housing beneficiaries move into fully serviced environments.

Maluleka said residents of Ga-Rankuwa Ext 10 can expect to see visible construction activity over the next 20 months as the infrastructure is built.
