Wesselton’s road rehabilitation drags on months after the last municipal update, leaving residents frustrated by closures and detours.
WESSELTON – Rehabilitation of Magwaza, Mabilisa and Mabuza streets remains ongoing nearly four months after Msukaligwa Municipality’s last update, with several sections still closed to traffic.
The R22,1 million project, relaunched earlier this year, forms part of the municipality’s long-term plan to restore Wesselton’s ageing infrastructure.
Work restarted on May 22, with completion scheduled for December 19.
Despite some progress, residents say daily detours and closures have become routine.
“It’s been months of inconvenience,” said one resident who commutes to work by taxi.
Municipal spokesperson Mandla Zwane earlier confirmed that the upgrades include new drainage, resurfacing, and pedestrian improvements, and that contractors were instructed to improve safety measures.
Highvelder has again requested comment from Zwane to confirm whether the project remains on track and what oversight is in place to prevent further delays.
