The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality recently officially launched the construction of Zambezi Street in Missionvale.
Executive mayor, Retief Odendaal, said that insufficient infrastructure projects were implemented over the years to convert gravel roads into tarred roads in the area.
“We are here to inspect the scope of work, to see what must be done. Our coalition government is fully committed to ensure that sufficient funding is available to invest in infrastructure projects such as these, across the metro, in order to improve the living conditions of our residents,” Odendaal said.
Work on Zambezi Street started mid-September and is expected to be done by March 2023. MMC for Roads and Transport, Kabelo Mogatosi, said that funding is available in the current financial year to tar 57 gravel roads across the metro.
“A number of those gravel roads are in Missionvale. We are also addressing the stormwater drainage system. Missionvale is known for its clay soil and coupled with the fact that it is a lower lying area, flooding occurs regularly, resulting in the need for assistance from Disaster Management,” he said.
The scope of work for this project involves the construction of the road, kerbs and the installation of a stormwater drainage system.
