The ratepayer's association says a tarmac was removed from a large part of the road and may have been the cause of a collision.
THE patching of potholes on Inanda Road got underway last week after residents had eagerly been waiting for the commencement of a Department of Transport rehabilitation project.
This, according to Julie Cox of the Upper Highway Ratepayers’ and Residents Association, meant an urgent meeting which had been planned for the weekend to discuss the concerns about the road was cancelled.
However, the work which was done last week left “a large surface of the road near Rainbow Drive entrance to Crestholme, which spanned the width of the lane,” exposed without any warning signs “which resulted in vehicles swerving into oncoming traffic to avoid it”, which culminated with two vehicles colliding, said Cox.
The two vehicles collided on Saturday, January 10, however, no major injuries were reported by the medical services which attended the scene.
The chairperson of the ratepayer’s association, Bruce Henderson, lamented the incomplete work and said he contacted the department for an update.
Henderson said no workers were on the road on Monday morning.
“They never do a proper job,” said Henderson, who added that a petition from last year was sent to the MEC for Transport, Siboniso Duma, who has not responded.
In response to an enquiry by the Highway Mail, Duma’s spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, said he would provide an update once the department’s engineers have furnished a report on the road.
