johannesburg - the competition commission has searched premises belonging to pretoria portland cement (ppc), the company said on thursday.

"on june 24, 2009 the competition commission conducted a search and seizure operation at the premises of the major cement manufacturers," ppc said in a statement.

this related to a broad investigation into the cement industry, the company said.

"whilst reserving its rights, ppc is co-operating with the commission," it said.

since the inception of the competition act in 1999, ppc emphasised that it had been vigilant in ensuring ongoing compliance with competition legislation.
