One year from now, Club Med will unveil its first resort in South Africa, Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari on the Dolphin Coast, north of Durban.

At an estimated +R2 billion cost, the high-end, all-inclusive resort will be built on a former sugarcane plantation by developers Collin Residential, offering 411 lodgings spread over several buildings constructed around terraces opening onto tropical gardens with pools.

Designed by South African firm, Craft of Architecture with the interior design carried out jointly by local design studio Mobius and Parisian studio, MNHA, the lodgings’ contemporary architectural features include locally sourced stone and light wood, clean lines, and large picture windows, blending in respectfully with their natural setting.

The buildings will create a smooth continuity between indoor and outdoor areas by harnessing natural light, highlighting the local flora, and offering abundant surrounding views.

The bright 345 functional and outfacing rooms, including 310 Superior and 35 Deluxe, will combine untreated natural materials with colours inspired by the South African coastline.

The private Exclusive Collection – Ilanga section has 66 Suites for a more intimate holiday experience, including personalized service as well as a lounge.

Guests will have two restaurants to choose from; the Oceana (world cuisine) and the Nguni Gourmet Club featuring local seafood and produce, as well as several bars – the resort’s main bar, The Injabulo, and the ocean-facing Dunes Beach Bar.

In addition to a holiday experience in unspoilt natural surroundings, the resort will offer an immersive safari adventure based at Mpilo Safari Lodge as well as a programme of recreational activities including a surf school, guided gravel bike tours, padel courts, and yoga classes.

Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari will seek Green Globe certification of its day-to-day operations as well as a 4-Star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA).
