The premier of the Free State has vowed to attend to the troubling state of roads in the province.

The state of the roads left motorists in the province furious with the local government.

Whilst reopening several roads in the province, premier Sisi Ntombela conceded that a lot of work still needs to be done by her government to fix and deal with such.

She said the importance of fixing roads cannot be over-stressed because of the strategic location of the province.

Ntombela said one of the commitments made was that several roads will be completed in this financial year.

Over a billion rand is expected to be spent on the construction of roads in the province.

"During the State of the Province Address (SOPA) earlier this year, we made promises to the people of the province. It gives me great pleasure to announce that six months after those pledges were made, we have lived up to the promises we made.

"A commitment was made that in the 2022/23 financial year several roads which were under construction will be completed," she added.

Ntombela, whilst flanked by the MEC for Police, Roads and Transport, William Bulwane, officially opened the following roads:

Vredefort - Viljoenskroon
Wesselsbron - Hoopstad
Kroonstad - Steynsrus
Ventersburg - Senekal
