Mayor Pepping breaks ground on 5km road construction set for completion by February 2026, bringing jobs and smoother travel to the Mantlaneni community.

A new chapter in local development began 07 August as Mayor Cllr. P.N. Pepping visited Mantlaneni in Ward 03 to officially hand over a road construction project aimed at connecting the communities of Sirheshe and Sibutha.

The 5-kilometre stretch is expected to be completed within six months, with a final delivery date of 8 February 2026. The road, which will improve access between the two areas, includes a 200-meter steep section that will be concreted to ensure safety during rainy weather.

The project is set to create employment for 12 local workers and includes opportunities for one emerging local business, referencing the municipality’s goal to empower the community economically. Construction will be led by Tentamount Trading 68, with consultancy from Mlala Emazweni Trading And Projects.

In his closing remarks, Mayor Pepping thanked the residents for raising the need for the road, stating, “When communities speak, government must listen.” He encouraged residents to register to vote, emphasizing how voter numbers can influence budget allocations and help direct more development to their area.

Ward Councillor, Cllr. Ntilini expressed gratitude on behalf of residents, highlighting that the community’s needs are finally being met. He also pointed to the success of previous initiatives like Project Owethu, which had already brought noticeable improvements to the ward.

Residents welcomed the announcement, calling the road long overdue. They see it as a critical step in improving mobility and access to services, especially in a ward where infrastructure has lagged behind for years.
