Public Works Minister Sihle Zikalala has assured communities on the KZN south coast that the new Port Shepstone Magistrate's Court will open its doors this year.

He says construction work's expected to wrap up in the next three months.

Zikala and Deputy Justice Minister John Jeffery embarked on an oversight visit in KZN over the weekend, where they also examined the work being done at the Vulamehlo Magistrate's Court.

They've vowed to speed up the construction of these projects.

Zikalala said the Port Shepstone Magistrate's Court has been hit by delays for about nine years due to poor planning by contractors.

"We will continue to push that whatever is outstanding gets finalised so that we will hand over the project to the department. We are also dealing with the issue of the project is stalled and we ensure that that project is expedited."
