The 4.8km Ga-Maepa access road in Ohrigstad is nearly complete, promising improved connectivity and economic growth.
The mayor of Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM), Cllr Eddie Maila, accompanied by members of the Executive Committee and ward councillors, visited the area to inspect the construction progress.
“The road construction is at 99%, and the contractor is currently busy with road markings. Once completed, it will bring much-needed relief to residents who previously faced severe challenges due to poor road conditions. The new access route will significantly reduce travel time and boost the local economy by improving connectivity to nearby villages and service centres,” said Maila.
During the inspection, Maila expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and commended the co-operation demonstrated by the Ga-Maepa community throughout the construction process.
“This project shows what can be achieved when the community, contractor and municipality work together in good faith. The road stands as evidence of our commitment to utilise conditional grants efficiently and for their intended purposes,” he said.
Maila further urged all contractors to complete their projects within the stipulated time frames, so the municipality can channel its resources to other wards that require similar infrastructure development.
“Our vision of expanding the local road network and improving rural access is progressively being realised. Roads like Ga-Maepa are not just about mobility – they are about transforming lives and enabling development,” he concluded.
