The project was first mooted in 2021, but commencement dates have kept changing.
AJ PROPERTY Holdings have announced that they are waiting for final approvals on the proposed shopping complex that they are planning to build in Doonside. Named the Kingsburgh Junction, the shopping centre is proposed to be built at 2 Seadoone Road, near the main intersection coming off the N2 highway.
When AJ Property Holdings first announced the plans for the centre in March 2021, it was announced that the breaking of the ground would be done in May of that year and construction would start not long after. By February 2022, the company’s director, Shaun Welgemoed, said they were still addressing the relevant statutory approval requirements regarding the development and were engaging prospective tenants. At the time, they confirmed that they would open their doors in October this year. At the beginning of this year, the company’s Laura Radford said the centre is to open its doors in October 2024.
After a recent Facebook post by AJ Property Holdings, where the final approvals announcement was made, some members of the community welcomed the pending shopping centre, while others expressed concern about the traffic on Seadoone Road.
“The development will comply with the City’s requirements for access and egress. We are currently in consultation with the City to ensure all of the necessary elements are adhered to,” said the company in response.
The sprawling 9 000m2 complex is set to have 32 stores.
