As soon as the necessary designs and studies have been concluded, and the sourcing of the required budget done, then the City will implement repairs on the Nettleton Road bridge.
The City of Ekurhuleni acknowledged that the Nettleton Road bridge is pulling away.
Spokesperson Zweli Dlamini stated on April 1 that the concrete bridge houses electricity cables, stormwater pipes and portable water pipes.
He added, “The underground infrastructure constrains construction methodology, increases risk, necessitates additional investigations and design considerations, and introduces coordination and approval delays.”
Dlamini said the water and sanitation business unit, in particular Edenvale Depot, had replaced the polyvinyl chloride pipe with a steel pipe on the bridge.

He advised, however, that this is not a permanent solution until the Road and Storm Water Department attends to the eroding and caving embankment. Once this is done, the team will reinforce the steel pipeline on the bridge as a permanent solution.
The spokesperson said the city is aware of the bridge pulling away, and the Maintenance division has done inspections and submitted the findings to the Implementation division. The city is doing further investigations and studies to get a more permanent solution to this problem.
Dlamini said that as soon as the necessary designs and studies are completed and the required budget is secured, the City will implement repairs on the bridge.
