The Department of Infrastructure Development confirms steady progress at Nancefield Primary in Eldorado Park, with completion targeted for December 2025.
Despite missing the initial September deadline, SMC Construction and Building has made positive progress on the construction of Nancefield Primary School on Dartmoor Avenue, Eldorado Park.
On September 30, the Department of Infrastructure Development (DID) A-team from Tulisa Park conducted an inspection visit at the school, led by Sello Morake.
The A-team comprises a diverse range of skilled professionals, including inspectors, artisans, and other tradespeople.
According to DID spokesperson Theo Nkonki, the project is 67% complete, with overall completion planned for the end of December 2025.
The delay was caused by challenges such as ventilation issues in the generator room, the absence of an electrical reticulation connection, and missing information regarding the installation of a non-return valve on the main fire supply line.
Nkonki said the next steps include the installation of panel lights, power skirting, and ongoing tubing and wiring in the main hall.
“The contractor is busy with the sports field and has started earthworks. Walkways are in progress with the installation of IBR Chromadek sheets, and the admin block ceiling has been completed,” he added.
Current activities on site include:
• External works: carports, walkways, and paving
• Finishes: plastering, painting, glazing, carpentry, and ceilings
• Electrical works
• Mechanical works
City of Johannesburg Section 79 Development Planning chairperson and Ward 18 Clr Juwairiya Kaldine has been monitoring progress on the project.
SMC Construction and Building was appointed by the DID as the main contractor and was introduced to the community during a public meeting at Don Mateman Hall, Extension 5, Eldorado Park, in August.
The scope of the new facility includes 12 classrooms for grades on to three, 12 classrooms for grades four to six, four classrooms for Grade Seven, an admin block, a library, a sports facility, a guardhouse, a covered refuse area, a nutrition centre, and two combi courts.
Construction site cleared and prepared for the next phase of development at the school premises.
