Construction work is underway on the southbound resulting in traffic intermittently being reduced to one lane through the construction zone.

Motorists travelling on the N3 towards Durban from Johannesburg were on Friday advised to expect traffic delays due to ongoing roadworks between the Balgowan and Howick/Tweedie interchanges.

According to N3 Toll Concession (N3TC), construction work is underway on the southbound lane, resulting in traffic intermittently being reduced to one lane through the construction zone.

Given the high traffic volumes and mix of vehicles using this busy stretch of the N3 daily, road users should expect congestion and possible delays, especially during peak travel times.

Please approach the area with increased caution, and follow the sign-posted safety instructions.

“Adhere to the reduced speed limits, maintain a safe following distance, anticipate sudden stops, and please merge carefully into the designated open lanes, where required,” said Thania Dhoogra, chief operating officer of N3TC.

Not only are these precautions for your own safety, but they also protect your fellow road users and vulnerable construction workers, while reducing the risk of collisions or further disruptions.

Motorists are urged to follow @n3route on X for construction updates, weather forecasts, and real-time, verified incident reports.
