The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (Sanral) have scheduled temporary nighttime road closures for the removal of the steel bridge beams at the new Market Road overpass bridge.

The closures will be scheduled as follows:

- N3 Southbound closure: From Sunday July 13, 2025 at 9 pm to Monday, July 14, 2025 at 5 am.
The available alternative routes are:
- N3 Northbound: Alternative via Market Road offramp then temporary onramp back onto the N3.
- N3 Southbound: Alternative via Market Road offramp, then left onto R103 to Ashburton, left onto Pope Ellis Drive, and back onto the N3 via Ashburton Interchange.
“Our traffic accommodation team, with the assistance of the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), have carefully planned the closures and will manage and monitor them for their full duration” said Jason Lowe, Sanral’s KZN Provincial Specialist Geometrics Engineer.
Lowe added that Sanral has planned the closure when the disruption will be minimised.
Trucks and heavy vehicles are advised to try and delay trips over this period or find suitable staging areas to avoid major congestion. Public transport operators are asked to ensure their drivers are aware of route closures and alternatives affecting their commuter routes.
“Light vehicle traffic, as well as emergency services and traffic management are advised to make use of alternative routing. SANRAL apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s patience during the ongoing major road enhancements.” said Lowe.
