The oversight visit, conducted on Tuesday morning, focused on assessing progress on the R32.8 million project.
The Mayor of Msunduzi Municipality, Mzi Thebolla, on Tuesday inspected the ongoing rehabilitation of Howick Road in Pietermaritzburg, as part of efforts to improve road infrastructure and service delivery.
Thebolla was joined by deputy mayor Mxolisi Mkhize and municipal speaker Eunic Majola during the oversight visit.
The oversight visit, conducted on Tuesday morning, focused on assessing progress on the R32.8 million project, which is aimed at enhancing mobility, road safety and driving conditions along one of the city’s key routes.
The 3.6km project includes patchwork repairs, milling of the existing asphalt to a depth of 120mm, and resurfacing with a 70mm hot mix asphalt layer, including a correctional layer and wearing surface.
The project forms part of a broader infrastructure investment programme targeting critical road networks that support economic activity and ease traffic flow in the city.
“The road is a major arterial route linking residential and commercial areas, making its rehabilitation essential for daily commuters and businesses,” said Thebolla.
During the visit, Thebolla assessed the quality of work and progress on site, engaging with project teams to ensure that timelines and standards are being met.
He said the project demonstrates its commitment to maintaining and upgrading infrastructure to improve the quality of life for residents.
