The CR Swart Drive reconstruction project is meant to ease traffic once complete but has been the cause of frustration for many.

The road construction on CR Swart Drive has neared completion. The Express received many complaints from frustrated motorists about the lack of communication on the project. Motorists complained that the road congestion in morning and evening peak traffic times was particularly heavy.

According to Ward 104 Clr Tracey Lourenco, the project is in its final stages but slowed down because of several public holidays last month. “The contractors are busy with the tarring process and will start with the base layers as early as the first week of next month. “CR Swart Drive should be complete by mid-June, at the latest,” she said.

Lourenco confirmed that the traffic lights would be reinstated at the main intersections only after the roads were tarred and complete. “I made multiple requests to the municipality to look at the traffic light installation as an urgent matter,’ she said. Lourenco said once complete, there would be no access to Dries Niemandt Park from CR Swart Drive when travelling from Edleen to the Kempton Park CBD.

“However, when travelling from the Kempton Park CBD toward Edleen, there will be access to the park. “Alternative access to Dries Niemandt Park will be from Green Avenue,” advised Lourenco.
