Milnerton road resurfacing set to begin on key routes

Road users in Milnerton can expect night-time construction, temporary traffic disruptions and possible delays as the City of Cape Town begins resurfacing work on two key routes.
Work is scheduled to start tomorrow (Wednesday 23 September), with visible resurfacing expected to get under way from Wednesday 30 September.
The project will take place along Marine Drive/R27 between Lagoon Beach Drive and Broad Road, as well as on Koeberg Road between Boundary Road and Knysna Road.
Construction is expected to continue until Thursday 5 November, with work taking place from 19:00 to 05:30, Sundays to Fridays, including public holidays.
3,4km of road to be resurfaced
The project will cover approximately 3,4km and will include milling and replacing sections of the existing road surface.
Selected repairs to the road base will also be carried out, along with the replacement of missing or damaged kerbs and reinstatement of retro-reflective road markings after resurfacing.
The City’s Mayco member for urban mobility, Rob Quintas, said the project formed part of the City’s ongoing road maintenance programme.
“This important project forms part of the City’s regular road maintenance programme and will improve the condition of these important routes, providing road users with a smoother travelling surface and helping us to keep Cape Town moving,” said Quintas.
Work to take place at night
To reduce the impact on traffic, the contractor will work on one lane at a time.
Despite the night-time schedule, residents and businesses near the work areas can expect construction noise, while motorists should prepare for temporary traffic disruptions and delays.
The affected sections include Marine Drive/R27 between Lagoon Beach Drive and Loxton Road, and between Loxton Road and Broad Road.
On Koeberg Road, work will take place between Boundary Road and Knysna Road.
The City has urged motorists to approach construction areas with caution and allow extra time for their journeys.
Local job opportunities
The project will also provide temporary employment opportunities for approximately five local jobseekers registered on the City’s local jobseekers database.
Quintas said the project would therefore provide benefits beyond improving the condition of the roads.
“While we improve our roads, we can also provide practical opportunities for people in our communities,” he said.
The City has thanked residents, businesses and road users for their patience and cooperation while the resurfacing work is under way.
