The rehabilitation of Meyer Street will conclude soon, hopefully restoring normal traffic flow to Middelburg.
The ongoing roadworks on Meyer Street, which have resulted in significant traffic congestion since its closure, are expected to be completed by Thursday, Sanral confirmed in a media response.
According to Lwando Mahlasela (media relations manager for Sanral), Meyer Street will reopen on August 7, following a communiqué that was shared with the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.
Sanral’s statement further says: “Residents are hereby informed that a portion of Meyer Street between Protea- and Beyers Naudé Streets, including the entrance of Brug Street from Meyer Street, will be closed from 09:00 on July 31 to August 7, due to ongoing rehabilitation of roads.
“Motorists are urged to use alternative routes. Heavy motor vehicles (trucks) are prohibited from driving on Lilian Ngoyi Street. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
Sanral’s statement was in response to an enquiry sent yesterday by the Middelburg Observer, after Alderman Johann Dyason said that roadwork teams planned for the road to be reopened today.
