Lynnwood Road construction: Motorists urged to heed signs as roadworks continue

Traffic management measures remain in place along Lynnwood Road as construction on the A Re Yeng BRT Line 2B project continues. Completion is expected by late October.

Motorists using Lynnwood Road are being urged to remain vigilant as the Tshwane Metro continues construction on the A Re Yeng BRT Line 2B project, with traffic management measures remaining in place until the project is completed in late October.

The warning comes after Ward 56 Councillor Tiaan Dippenaar previously cautioned that, despite the reopening of Lynnwood Road, sections of the route remained hazardous due to ongoing construction.

Although the road reopened to traffic on July 18, sections of the corridor remain active construction zones where contractors are completing stormwater infrastructure and other road upgrades.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the broader BRT Line 2B project remains on track for completion by late October. He said the metro has implemented traffic management measures to protect motorists, pedestrians and construction workers while work continues.

“The city has implemented appropriate safety measures and traffic management controls to provide a safe environment for all road users while construction continues in selected areas.”

“These include measures around locations where deep excavations are required for the installation of stormwater junction boxes,” said Mashigo.

He urged motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to remain alert and follow all temporary traffic measures when travelling through the area.

“Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to remain alert, observe the signage in place and exercise caution when travelling through these sections.”

Mashigo said temporary lane restrictions remain in place where construction activities are ongoing.

He added that these measures are necessary to ensure the safety of both road users and construction personnel.

“Motorists are encouraged to comply with all temporary traffic controls, signage, speed restrictions and the directions of traffic management personnel where applicable.”

While the reopening of Lynnwood Road marked an important milestone, Mashigo said work on the corridor has not yet been completed.

“Construction work along the corridor forms part of the broader BRT Line 2B project and is progressing well. While the reopening of Lynnwood Road marks a significant milestone in the project, some planned works are still being completed in certain sections of the corridor as development continues towards the project’s completion.”

The Line 2B project includes road widening, stormwater upgrades, and infrastructure improvements to enhance traffic flow and prepare the route for future dedicated A Re Yeng bus lanes.

Mashigo thanked residents, businesses and commuters for their continued patience, co-operation and understanding during the construction period.

“While the remaining works are being completed, motorists are encouraged to continue exercising caution, observe all temporary traffic measures and allow for additional travelling time where necessary.”
