Concerned residents expressed outrage over the state of the corner of Bothma and Nicol roads.

Residents are in a panic as the stormwater culvert pipe at the corner of Bothma and Nicol roads seems to be deteriorating further.

The culvert has turned saggy and uneven, alarming the neighbourhood.

Cracks can be seen on the road as the culvert is slowly collapsing.

Residents are demanding swift action as they are wondering what it will take to get the problem resolved.

Some residents took to social media to raise their grievances with one user asking whether ‘someone needs to die first’ for the matter to be attended to.

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys previously told the Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS that she is working hard to get it fixed before it causes a serious accident.

She recently updated the publication on the matter with the following statement.

“Our Roads and Storm Water Department have done an in-depth study of what needs to be done, which includes all materials and costing.

She added that she has sent numerous emails to the relevant departments about this matter highlighting its urgency.

“We are expecting a horrible incident here if this is not urgently attended to. Either we need to urgently prioritise a repair here or this road will have to be closed. Nicol Road is the central East/West arterial through Bedfordview.

“Along with other extremely heavy traffic, our fire, waste, and parks department including local police, all use this road every day, we cannot afford to be without it,” added Humphreys.
