Over 200 EPWP workers are deployed as the municipality repairs disaster-hit roads and builds new community halls.

The King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality held its Transport Forum at Gerald Raymond Hawkes Stadium in Mthatha on 29 October 2025, focusing on road and infrastructure improvements across several wards. The forum progressed on disaster repairs, new road projects, and community hall construction in affected areas.

What Happened?

During the Transport Forum, municipal officials presented updates on key infrastructure projects aimed at restoring damaged roads and improving accessibility within local communities. Disaster-related repairs are currently underway in wards 15, 17, 18, 34, and other surrounding areas.

Municipal representatives confirmed that contractors for wards 20, 23, and 37 will be introduced before the end of October to begin new road construction projects.

Official Response

The municipality reaffirmed its commitment to improving mobility and infrastructure in both urban and rural areas. Officials emphasized KSD’s proactive approach to infrastructure recovery following recent weather-related damages.

Ongoing projects include the construction of community halls in Dukathole, Gxididi, Lower Ngqwarha, and Zanci. Road upgrades are also progressing in Mqanduli town (internal streets), Wilo to Mbozisa, and other critical routes.

Community Impact

The forum encouraged residents to participate in discussions and take pride in the developments within their wards. Many community members expressed relief that long-standing infrastructure challenges are finally being addressed.

“These projects bring hope to our people,” said a resident from Mqanduli. “They mean safer travel, better access, and jobs for local workers.”

The municipality’s call for communities to be resonated as a symbol of transparency, collaboration, and shared ownership of local progress.
