After weeks of silence and worsening damage on Randa Road, JRA says a solution is being finalised with stakeholders, offering hope for long-awaited repairs.
After months of concern and unanswered questions, Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has confirmed that it is now actively engaging stakeholders to resolve the ongoing collapse of Randa Road.
In a response to media inquiries, JRA’s HOD for infrastructure development Kwazelela Mcetywa apologised for the delay, indicating that discussions are underway. “JRA is still busy resolving the issue with stakeholders, which include the contractor and the ward councillor. We will keep on updating you with new developments pertaining to this issue.”
The update comes after weeks of mounting frustration from residents and local leadership, as persistent storm water flow continued to erode the road, worsening damage after each rainfall event.
Ward 115 councillor Mark van der Merwe has welcomed the response. “I think we have a solution. I have been working with the engineers and the MMC to fix the problem. Once they have allocated funds and the project is finished, we can then focus on repairing the road.”
Randa Road has suffered extensive damage in recent weeks, with large sections of the edge collapsing, potholes deepening, and surroundings eroding due to continuous water flow, believed to stem from a storm water diversion linked to nearby drainage infrastructure.
While JRA’s response signals movement on the issue, no clear timeline has yet been provided for when repairs or interventions will begin.
