The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), on behalf of the City of Johannesburg, is making steady progress on the relocation and redevelopment of offices for the Metropolitan Tech Company (MTC). The project forms part of the City's broader urban optimisation strategy aimed at improving the efficiency of municipal entities.

The six‑month initiative focuses on modernising MTC's operational environment through the relocation from Forum IV at Braampark Office Park to the Libridge Building. A comprehensive design‑and‑build approach is being implemented to deliver an efficient, fit‑for‑purpose workspace that supports current and future operational needs.

The JDA confirms that the initial phase of the project has been completed, marking a critical milestone in the overall programme. Achievements to date include:

  • Relocation Completed: All relocation activities have been finalised, with MTC successfully established at its new premises.
  • Forum IV Handover: Demolition and make‑good works at the former site have been completed, and the facility has been formally handed back.
  • Construction Progress at Libridge Building: Overall construction progress has reached approximately 40%.
  • Partitioning Works Advancing: Phase 1 installation of partitioning frameworks is progressing well, with completion currently at approximately 60%.

The project team continues to work closely with appointed contractors and professional consultants to ensure delivery remains aligned with approved timelines, quality standards, and operational requirements.

Next Steps in Construction

Over the coming weeks, construction activities will shift towards more intensive internal works and finishing phases, including:

  • Ongoing installation and completion of drywall partitioning
  • Commencement of skimming and interior finishes
  • Installation of fire detection and fire‑suppression systems
  • Implementation of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems

This project reflects the JDA's continued commitment to delivering infrastructure that enhances operational efficiency across the City's entities while supporting broader urban development objectives.

By providing a modernised and functional workspace for MTC, the initiative is expected to contribute to improved service delivery, operational integration, and long‑term sustainability within the City of Johannesburg's institutional framework.
