Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Roads and Transport in the City of Ekurhuleni, Cllr Lindiwe Mnguni, conducted an oversight visit to key transport infrastructure projects currently under construction along Pretoria Road in Kempton Park on March 12.
Among the projects inspected were three Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations as well as the sinkhole rehabilitation project on Pretoria Road near OR Tambo International Airport.
As part of the visit, Mnguni also met with the chairperson of the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in Ekurhuleni, Dr Mandlakhe Kenneth Mtshali, who also serves as chairperson of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) operating company, KTVR.
The meeting with the taxi industry leadership focused on critical issues affecting one of the city’s busiest transport sectors. Discussions included BRT operational matters, commuter safety and progress on transport infrastructure development.
Mnguni assured road users that most of the projects she inspected are expected to be completed before the end of the current financial year and appealed to residents and motorists for patience while construction work continues.
