Work on Chorisia Lane enters its final stages, with paving set to begin following delays caused by pipe leaks and water bursts.

Work on Chorisia Lane in Fourways Gardens Estate is progressing, with paving expected to be completed within the next two weeks, according to Ward 94 councillor David Foley.

The road deteriorated last year and became spongy due to pipe leaks and suspected groundwater. The Johannesburg Roads Agency subsequently launched a project to repair the road, with work beginning earlier this year.

Foley said the project had experienced delays after two water bursts occurred on either side of the road. “Unfortunately, there were two water bursts on either side, which held it up a little bit. But those were fixed by Johannesburg Water.”

Foley said the work had since progressed, with the necessary layers completed and concrete beams installed as part of the preparation for the paving.

“With paving, you’ve got to have a stop line. So, they’ve got one, two, they’ve got three beams so far,” Foley said.

According to Foley, the team was now working on the final levels before the paving could begin.

“They are just going to do the final sort of levels and things, and now you are going to start paving. So, I reckon the paving should be in the next two weeks or so. It should be complete.”

Foley said he was confident that the issues would now be resolved following the progress made on the project.

Bertha Peters-Scheepers from the roads agency acknowledged our query on September 22 and promised to revert. An update will be provided once the information has been received.
