The City of Cape Town will commence work on the much anticipated 12-month-long Sea Point Promenade and Granger Bay parking area project on Monday, 15 May 2023.

The revamp will upgrade and improve walkways, public art, coastal structures, a play park, a parking area, a lawn and coastal vegetation areas.

During the construction period, the Granger Bay parking area will be closed to the public. Temporary traffic and pedestrian accommodation measures have been arranged, and signage will be displayed in affected areas.

The Sea Point Promenade and Granger Bay Parking Area Project includes the following scheduled tasks:

• Upgrading of Granger Bay parking area

• Construction of a rock revetment

• New Fort Road play park

• Additional walkways

• Additional coastal vegetation and lawn planting

• Installation of interpretive signage to give heritage information

• Public art in the Sea Point Library

The City’s deputy mayor and mayoral committee member for spatial planning and environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews said that the City is working towards a greener Sea Point promenade with two added walkways connecting the promenade to Beach Road and a play park.

Alderman Andrews added, ‘We cannot wait for you to see the outcomes that will include a public art display inside the Sea Point Library.

The upgrade of the Granger Bay parking area will also make way for more parking, with formalised bays demarcated. The Sea Point promenade is an iconic destination and one of the most popular among locals and visitors. We are continuously improving the infrastructure and look forward to seeing more visitors once the project is complete.’
