Sanral said it took note of the concerns and that its routine road maintenance contractor is currently clearing build-up on the median barriers.
GEORGE NEWS - The South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) on Tuesday 12 December confirmed that it is attending to maintenance at the road diversion on the N2 near the Gwaiing bridge construction site.
This was in response to alarm bells sounded by a road user, Sharon Richter, who highlighted a dangerous situation at the diversion where drivers mostly travel at a high speed.
She warned that the reflection signs had faded and that the concrete barriers across the road cannot be noticed, especially at night, until the driver is right up to them. She had reported the situation to Sanral, but to no avail.
"At least two of the big concrete barriers across the road have been driven into already. They are literally smashed and leaning over. I would hate to think of the injuries to whomever drives into a solid concrete wall. Something has to be done to prevent any more accidents there."

"Temporary studs are being placed on the newly painted barriers. For additional visibility and to avoid any confusion, road markings, new road signs and delineators are being installed. Every effort is being made to have it all completed ahead of the upcoming school holidays and festive season break."
