The purpose of the visit was to assess the plant’s operational readiness and its capacity to deliver reliable water services to surrounding communities.

The country’s deputy president, Paul Mashatile, accompanied by the Premier of Mpumalanga, Mandla Ndlovu, Gert Sibande District Executive Mayor, Walter Mngomezulu, and Lekwa Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Sifiso Mngemezulu, conducted an oversight visit to the Standerton Water Treatment Plant on April 14.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the plant’s operational readiness and its capacity to deliver reliable water services to surrounding communities.

The visit is part of ongoing government interventions aimed at strengthening water infrastructure, improving service delivery, and ensuring sustainable access to clean, safe drinking water.

During the engagement, officials received a detailed briefing outlining the plant’s current performance, key challenges, and planned upgrades intended to improve efficiency and long-term functionality.

Mashatile said the oversight visit underscores the government’s continued commitment to responsive governance and infrastructure development, particularly in addressing persistent water supply challenges affecting communities in the region.
