With dangerous potholes and reinstatements making it difficult for pupils and parents of Cliffview Pre-Primary School, Ward 89 councillor Zander Shawe calls on JRA to do something.
Ward 89 councillor Zander Shawe is calling on Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to take immediate action to repair the poor state of the roads in Fairland, particularly near Cliffview Pre-Primary School.
Shawe highlighted the urgent need for resurfacing the road, stating that it is riddled with potholes and resembles a war zone, with bombs falling everywhere. In addition to the potholes, Shawe pointed out that a reinstatement nearby remains unaddressed, leaving half of the road filled with gravel and overgrown bushes. He emphasised the importance of maintaining safe access for children who need to attend school, and for the parents who drop them off.
Despite previous assurances from JRA that the road would be fixed, Shawe expressed frustration over the lack of progress. “Every time I follow up, they say it will be done, but nothing has changed. The biggest issue I have with JRA is the empty promises.”
Shawe stated that the agency needs to prioritise the safety of the community, and take swift action to resolve these ongoing road issues.
JRA Head of Regional Operations Khaya Gqibitole say that the completion rate of reinstatements is at 79%. “We will continue to repair all road defects in Region B, including reinstatements. Repair efforts will now be intensified through the executive mayor’s war on potholes programme, taking place in Region B until the end of July 2025.”
